Color Palette Variety Guide:
Unicorn’

For Flower Farmers

A seasonal guide and variety list for growing, designing, and selling ‘Unicorn’.

This Variety Guide tells you exactly what to grow and exactly how to pair your ingredients for stunning, sellable bouquets.

There are plenty of blooms could technically fit that description, so this guide expands significantly on pairing the right colors and tones for a cohesive result. Learn the correct hues that define Unicorn and keep the palette intact, no matter what's currently in your field.

Which Colors Actually Belong in a Unicorn Bouquet

What Seeds, Corms, Or Bulbs Should I Actually Order To Get These Colors?

"Pink," "peach," and "periwinkle" are easy to say and much harder to source correctly. And speaking from experience, the colors represented in the seed catalogues aren’t always completely accurate.Get the exact cultivars and sourcing notes you need before you place a single seed, corm, or bulb order using a spreadsheet of over 200 ingredients we’ve made just for you.

Pretty doesn't always mean profitable. But for Unicorn bouquets, the target customers are nearly endless, and that's exactly why it sells. See why it's one of Sweet Piedmont's fastest-selling, most requested palettes at the farmers market, farm stand, in subscriptions, and more.

Will This Actually Sell, Or Is It Just Pretty?

Unicorn isn't a spring-only palette, or a fall-only one. See how it holds its shape from the first tulip through the last dahlia, meaning you can achieve this palette in multiple ways through every phase of the year.

What Seasons Does This Palette Work For?

None, or plenty; this guide works either way. New growers get the upfront decisions and core skills that give a young business real footing, fast. Experienced growers get relief from the familiar frustration of designing with a pile of random blooms and hoping customers respond, plus a clear way to manage bigger, more diverse fields without the stress. Less guesswork, more sales.

Behind The Unicorn Palette

Years ago, my sister gave me a robe: soft cotton, printed all over in a paisley of periwinkle, pink, coral, and peach. She always finds the right gift, but this one especially stuck. Every color in it happened to be one of my favorites, layered together in a way I didn't know I needed until I had it.

That paisley print became the inspiration for the Unicorn palette: three candy-bright hues that don't take themselves too seriously, and somehow sell better than nearly anything else we offer. To read the full story behind Unicorn, check out the blog: The Unicorn Color Palette Commentary
